Heart Health Basics for Florida Families

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in Florida. Prevention starts at home — and at the dinner table.

Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in Florida, but it is also one of the most preventable. The habits that protect your heart are the same ones that protect your family's future.

Start with movement. Aim for 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity each week — a brisk walk, a swim, or a bike ride all count. Involve your kids; children who move with their parents build lifelong habits.

Next, focus on food. A heart-healthy plate is built around vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, and healthy fats. Limit processed foods, added sugars, and excess sodium. Cook at home when you can — you control every ingredient.

Finally, know your numbers. Blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar are the three that matter most. Our cardiovascular screening program makes it easy to get a full picture in one visit.
