Movement medicine for the coastal life — safe, enjoyable ways to keep your body thriving in the sun.
Movement is the closest thing we have to a fountain of youth — and Florida's climate makes year-round activity uniquely accessible. For adults over 60, the goal isn't intensity; it's consistency, balance, and joint-friendly variety.
Start with walking. Charlotte County offers flat, scenic routes along the harbor and through neighborhood parks. Aim for 150 minutes of moderate walking per week — about 30 minutes, five days. Break it into shorter walks if needed; the benefits are cumulative.
Add resistance training twice a week. You don't need heavy weights — resistance bands and bodyweight movements preserve muscle mass and bone density, both of which decline with age. Our PTEX program specializes in safe, progressive training for older adults.
Finally, respect the Florida sun. Schedule outdoor activity before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m., hydrate generously, and wear breathable clothing. Movement should add years to your life — and life to your years.
